Chester County Library is joining SCLENDS, a consortium of 16 county library systems within the state. SCLENDS will increase our patrons’ access to materials from approximately 93,000 volumes to over 2.5 million volumes. Your library card will give you access to over 53 locations across the state.
As Chester County Library prepares to go live SCLENDS June 1, 2012, our patrons will be affected by several changes. During preparations for migration to this consortium we will be moving to the open source library automation software called Evergreen. This will allow us to move funds from licensing software to providing services. There will be several interruptions to normal services during this adjustment time. Please be patient during this time of improving services for Chester County. The functions affected are as follows:
May 8, 2012: No consortium holds can be made after this date until June 2nd.
May 22, 2012: All Libraries closed – staff training and computer software migration.
June 1st: Overdue notices will not be mailed. Patrons will only be notified by email or text.

At their meeting on March 8, 2012, the Friends of the Chester County Library elected David Bannon of Chester as their new President. The Friends also want to thank Clevonne Jackson for her service as President. In other news, the Friends of the Library book sale will be held on April 26-28 at the Main Library at 100 Center Street in Chester and that donations are being taken at all branches. However, magazines and Readers Digest Condensed Books are NOT being taken. If you have a large number of donations, please call the Main Library at 377-8145 and the Bookmobile will come pick them up.
We enjoyed a great gaming day at Chester County Library. Settlers of Catan, Wits and Wagers, Ticket to Ride, Jungle Speed, Carcasonne, and Betrayal at House on the Hill were all avaliable to play as well as Playstation 3 and Playstation Move titles. The Playstation Move seemed to be the big hit as were Wits and Wagers and Jungle Speed. Ticket to Ride had some interest as well. We hope to make this a monthly event so check back with us in April!
