Library Reading Program Allows Kids to DREAM BIG and Earn Circus Tickets!

 Chester, South Carolina (February 4 & 6, 2015) Kids, are you interested in reading some cool library books?  Are you interested in earning a circus ticket at the same time?  Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey and area libraries will be hosting some serious fun with Reading with Ringling Bros.!.  The Chester County Main Library, Great Falls Community Library, and the Lewisville Community Library will all be participating in the program.

The reading program is easy and fun for kids to participate.  The best part is that kids can earn a  Ringling Bros. circus ticket by simply doing their library reading!  Children from ages 2 to 12 simply need to enroll with the librarian, who will give kids everything to start their library reading.  This unique library reading program will encourage children not only to read, but also to discover, dream and learn! For more information, visit www.ReadingWithRingling.com or call or visit your local library.  After reading 5 library books and getting their Rewards Club Card stamped by the librarian after each book, the children will take the Rewards Club Card to the box office at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina to exchange the pass in person for 1 reserved seat ticket when also purchasing a full price adult ticket (for each full price adult ticket purchased that adult can redeem up to three free kids’ ticket passes).  The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be in Columbia April 2-5, 2015.

Want to learn what it takes to soar on the flying trapeze or just what goes into those cream pies that the clowns throw?  Or maybe learn some fun facts about one of the more than 100 cities the mile-long circus train visits or how to teach your old dog a new trick?  It’s easy!  Just visit your local library and enjoy the magic of reading.

Canes & Crafts

The Chester County Library System and Chester County 4-H are co-sponsoring a morning of fun at the Chester County Main Library called Canes & Crafts on Monday, December 22 from 10:30am – 12:30pm for children in K5 – 5th grade.

Activities will include making seasonal crafts, playing games, reading books, and creating a snack. There is NO FEE required.

This program is LIMITED to the first 20 children to register by calling 803-377-8145 or by stopping at the front desk at the Chester County Library.

Christmas Events at the Chester County Library

Dec. 1-5, 2014 is Fine Free Week at the Chester County Libraries

In the Spirit of the Season, the Board of the Chester County Library System has designated December 1-5, 2014 as Fine Free Week. Return outstanding books or movies and the fine will be waived. Any branch of the library will be able to receive any Chester County Library book or movie.

This does not apply to Inter-Library Loan books or movies.

Early Closing

100 Center Street – Friday, December 5th, the hours of operation for the main branch will be 10:00am to 3:00pm. The early closing is due to the Chester County Christmas Parade in which our Bookmobile will be a part.

Then on Saturday, December 6th, as part of the downtown Christmas in Chester, the main branch will have Mrs. Claus from 9:00am – 12:00pm, who will read Christmas stories to good little boys and girls. Each child will receive a free book. Books will be given as supplies last. Please use the side entrance.

The rest of the main branch of library will be open regular business hours from 10:00am – 2:00pm.

Summer movies at the Library!  Every Thursday in July starting July 10th at 10am the Chester County Main Library will be showing movies.  The schedule is as follows:

Summer Reading Program
“Fizz, Boom, Read”
The Chester County Library System will offer a six week Summer Reading Program “Fizz, Boom, Read” at each of our three libraries for children ages 2 through th grade, and a Young Adult Program “Spark a Reaction” for grades 6th – 12th at Chester County Library Main.
Our Tot Trot program includes stories, crafts, fingerplays, music, and games.  Our hour long Book Trek for K5-5th grade children features books, crafts, experiments, games, guests, and music.  There will also be paid performance by the South Carolina Aquarium Rovers on Monday, June 30th at each branch.

December Events at the Library

The Library Board will have their December board meeting on Tuesday, December 10th at 6pm in the Main Branch.  Everyone welcome!

Game Day for December will be cancelled and will resume next year in January.

Canes and Crafts will be Friday, December 20th from 2pm – 4pm.  It is co-sponsored by the Chester County Library and the Chester County 4-H.  FREE for children K5 – 5th grades.  Limit 20 children.  Please register ahead of time at the library by stopping by the front desk or calling 803-377-8145.

Holiday Schedule:  All three locations will be closing early at noon on Monday, December 23rd.  They will also be closed Tuesday – Thursday, December 24, 25, and 26 to celebrate the Holidays.  Lastly, we will have regular hours on New Years Eve, but will be closed for New Years Day, January 1, 2014.

October Events at the Chester County Library

The Children’s programming for all three Chester County libraries will begin the week of September 23-25.   Storytimes, Kid’s Book Clubs and B.L.A.A.S.T.  Monday’s in Chester, Tuesdays in Great Falls, and Wednesdays in Lewisville.  Click for the complete schedule.

Haunted Chester Events at the Chester County Library.  Sign up at the Chester County Library. 

Events begin Friday, October 25th with a Ghost Walk through Downtown Chester led by local author and our very own Tally Johnson at 5PM and 6PM.  Saturday, October 26th offers a movie showing, local author book signings and Charlotte’s Own Surf-Rock band, The Monterreys, will perform across from the Old Jail on McAliley St from 3pm – 5pm Free!  Click for complete schedule

The Chester Library Board will hold its October meeting on Monday, October 14th at 6pm in the Main Branch location.

Game Day will be postponed for 1 1/2 weeks this month and will be on Monday, October 21st from 6pm – 9pm.  Please sign-up at the Main Library Branch circulation desk.
