Author Ron Rash to be at the Chester Main Library Tuesday, July 18th at 1:00pm

Ron Rash will be reading from his book of poetry, Eureka Mill,  based on his grandparents stories of mill life in Chester, South Carolina.

RON RASH is the author of the 2009 PEN/Faulkner Finalist and New York
Times bestselling novel Serena, in addition to five other novels,
including One Foot in EdenSaints at the RiverThe World Made Straight,
and Above the Waterfall; five collections of poems; and six collections of
stories, among them Burning Bright, which won the 2010 Frank O’Connor
International Short Story Award, Chemistry and Other Stories, which was a
finalist for the 2007 PEN/Faulkner Award, and most recently, Something
Rich and Strange. Twice the recipient of the O. Henry Prize, he teaches at
Western Carolina University.

Movies at the Library Thursdays in October

The Chester County Library main branch will be showing movies for the elderly on every Thursday in October.  The movie starts at 10:30 am.  The listing and dates of the movies will be:

29th – Fried Green Tomatoes

The Chester County library received over 1,500 films this week.

The Jessica Autumn Bannon Memorial Film Collection was donated by the Bannon family to honor the late South Carolina artist and model.

The first 150 titles are ready for release on Saturday, September 26 as part of the library’s Batman Day Event, which will also feature games, puzzles, free posters and 500+ free comics for library visitors.

The remaining films will be released at a rate of 25 each week throughout the coming year.

Collection Summary

The Jessica Autumn Bannon Memorial Film Collection serves Chester County and all of South Carolina. The collection of 1500+ titles spans many film and television genres, representative of its namesake’s eclectic tastes. The collection also includes personalized notes imprinted on some of the film covers. Each title is labeled as part of the collection.

The purpose of the collection is to honor the late Jessica Bannon by providing fine, intelligent, quirky, shocking, silly, informative and endearingly different films and television programs. It includes the latest hits and blockbusters, documentaries, foreign films and selected works from nearly every genre. The bulk of the collection will be housed at the Chester County Public Library in Chester, South Carolina. Some will be placed in the Great Falls and Lewisville branches. Specific titles may be requested via inter-library loan using the SC Lends system.

About Jessica Autumn Bannon

Jessica was a local artist and model residing in South Carolina. A featured artist at Art Bar Agora VI in Five Points, Columbia, South Carolina in 2014, Jessica’s work was also on semi-permanent display at the popular Columbia night spot, Red Door. She frequently appeared as a model in ads in South Carolina periodicals: The State, Free Times and the 5ive Points Visitor’s Guide. She was in the feature film Death Sentence (2007) with Kevin Bacon. Jessica died on January 16, 2015. She rests in the Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster, South Carolina.
